We are a family owned and operated business.
All our products are "made right here".
Beef from Huron County and pork from our own farm near Dashwood is used to create our large variety of products.
We are a provincial licensed and inspected Abattoir, supplying our customers from across south-western Ontario with locally grown pork, beef, lamb, chicken and turkey products
In order to comply with the newest regulations, we expanded our business in 2002 and added a new processing area and a larger retail store to the existing building.
As mentioned earlier all our pork comes from our own farm. Over the past 20 years we have developed a pig that is superior in meat quality by using a three way cross of Landrace, Yorkshire and Berkshire. Metzger Farms does not feed any genetically modified Corn to their pigs and therefore they are producing a high quality pig that can not be found enywhere else.

The evening concluded with the Manufacturer of the year award being accepted by Matt Metzger on behalf of Hensalls Metzger Meat Products. With local food and the 100 mile diet becoming such a hot trend, Metzger Meats was a fitting choice for Huron County Manufacturer of the Year. In presenting the award Huron County Warden, John Bezaire, praised the quality of Metzgers products. Local businesses and restaurants like The Little Inn of Bayfield and Forager Foods praise the quality of Metzger meats and mention the company by name in their own marketing. Metzger Meat Products was the winner of the Innovative Manufacturing Award and they were also seriously considered by the selection committee for the Innovative Product Award and Employer of the Year.
Manufacturing ready to eat meat products for the Ontario market, Metzger Meat Products was recognized by the Huron Manufacturing Association for the incredible process improvements that the company has implemented as part of its business expansion. The expansion was designed with food safety, productivity and worker ergonomics in mind. Issues like product flow, people flow and process controls were addressed while allowing the flexibility to take on new products and stay competitive in the marketplace. The new production was built in such a way that there is continuous refrigerated flow from start to finish. Ergonomic design was incorporated throughout to eliminate heavy lifting and handling of the meat by people. Every step of production is electronically monitored for cooling, cooking and production to eliminate errors and manipulation of records. New measures and equipment were added to enhance effectiveness of sanitation, product testing and food safety. Company revenue has tripled in the past 6 years.
